The new HR divorce leave scheme policies

Law firms Payne Hicks Beach, Boyes Turner, Mills & Reeve, and Laura Devine are among the latest to work with Positive Parenting Alliance.

The new HR policies would establish divorce as a ‘life event’. It would provide employees with support, paid leave, and flexible working to help with childcare during the separation change.

The PPA HR leave scheme launched on 26 January 2023. Further support would see employers offer employees emotional counselling and signpost divorce separation support services.

    What can businesses do?

Updating policies and procedures is a great start to help support employees during a divorce separation. Employers will then be able to address what support they can provide those in this situation.

As an employer, addressing the issues that come with divorce could help create a better working environment. The policy could help them feel supported and valued.

Simple policy changes could be providing employees with emotional support in the workplace. Or you could take it further by implementing policies that allow paid leave.

Overall, these new policies could see greater retention within a business.
